LOCAL LANGUAGE HOLDERS SOUGHT FOR MOREE HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT
Aboriginal language and storytelling will be integrated into signage and wayfinding for the Moree Hospital Redevelopment, and Health Infrastructure is seeking community members with knowledge of Indigenous language who are interested in being involved in the project.
Gomeroi, Kamilaroi, Gamilaroi community members with knowledge of Indigenous language are being sought to form a Language Reference Group to support the creation of a culturally safe environment.
Health Infrastructure Creative Producer Kattie Bugeja said during planning for the project, Aboriginal staff and community recommended the inclusion of Gamilaraay language in wayfinding to support a more welcoming health service for all.
“We are seeking interest from local language holders to work together on opportunities for incorporating language into signage for the redeveloped Moree Hospital,” Ms Bugeja said.
“We know that integrating art and storytelling into health facilities is important as they promote healing and provide a more positive experience for patients, staff and visitors.”
Opportunities for language include internal department signage and external welcome signage.
The group will be supported by an independent facilitator, will meet at least two times in November 2024.
To participate as a community representative, members should be based within the Moree Local Government area and/or have strong community links to Gomeroi, Kamilaroi, Gamilaroi country and community of Moree, and complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) form below.
