A section of wall that faces the redevelopment site has now been removed and work continues to develop the lower link bridge that will be one of three connection points through to the new building.
Attention is now being turned to the next connection points on the second and third levels. The second level will be the main pathway from the front entrance of the existing hospital that the public can use. However, the new building will also include four levels of basement parking creating more than 900 spaces for staff and the public.
A large artwork made of thousands of individual light reflectors – like those found on bicycle wheels – will be one of the major artworks for the new precinct.
Locally based, internationally renowned artist Dani Marti has been commissioned to create the artwork that will be installed in a public area between the new seven-storey acute services building and the existing hospital. Visit our website to find out more about the new artwork and the arts strategy for the redevelopment.
The women of the project team were honoured to share the stage recently with Emma Williams (Wallace) at the Women in Business and Associated Services breakfast in Newcastle.
Emma Williams is the author of This Girl Built That – a story book designed to inspire primary-school aged children (particularly girls), to consider a job in the construction industry.
