New Gunnedah Hospital site cleansed

Around 40 staff and community members joined together recently for an official Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at Gunnedah Hospital.

Taking place on the ground where the new hospital will be built, Uncle Len Waters welcomed all and performed a traditional Smoking Ceremony. Uncle Len also shared a beautiful story about the creation of fish and how all came from the one father.

Further stories were shared in a Connecting with Country yarn after the ceremony as well as feedback on the latest interior designs and colours. “It’s Gunnedah” was the feedback from one community member on the colour scheme for the inpatient unit.

Thanks to our builder Richard Crookes Construction (RCC) for putting on a delicious BBQ lunch for everyone.

While RCC are wrapping up the early works onsite they’re also preparing to commence main construction works in the coming months. The redevelopment includes a new emergency department, ambulance bays, inpatient, birthing and maternity unit, and courtyards, and is forecast to be completed in late 2025.
