Work has officially begun on Stage 3 of the Muswellbrook Hospital redevelopment.

Hospital staff, key partners and builder Richard Crookes Constructions marked the occasion on site near the future Community Health space.

A huge thank you to Uncle Glen Morris and Uncle Gary Wright from the Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council for leading an Acknowledgement of Country and Smoking Ceremony to cleanse the hospital site.

This was followed by the planting of three native Old Man Saltbush shrubs to represent the redevelopment’s third stage.

The project team worked closely and consulted with local Indigenous horticulture specialists in the selection of the shrubs, which are hardy and grow in abundance in the area. Traditionally, Aboriginal people ate the salty-tasting leaves fresh or added them to their cooking.
